Daredevil fans, prepare your ‘michael-scott-its-happening.gif’ social posts – the news you’ve been waiting for ever since Charlie Cox’s Matt Murdock popped up in Spider-Man: No Way Home and Vincent D’Onofrio’s Kingpin (aka Wilson Fisk) appeared in Hawkeye has arrived: they’re officially coming back in an upcoming Marvel Cinematic Universe series. No, they haven’t confirmed Daredevil Season 4 quite yet – but for now, those rumours about characters from the so-called 'Defenders Saga' popping up in forthcoming Disney+ series Echo appear to be true.

According to The Weekly Planet Podcast, Cox and D’Onofrio will both be a part of that show, which centres on Alaqua Cox’s Maya Lopez – initially introduced in the Hawkeye series. In that series, it emerged that Kingpin was the big bad causing trouble in New York (as is his wont) – and though Echo had been working for him, she learned that he was in fact responsible for the death of her father. Expect that beef to rumble on through the Echo series. It’s unknown exactly what Daredevil’s part in the show will be, but THR reports that he’ll have his own story thread in the series – one that perhaps leads to Krysten Ritter’s Jessica Jones. Disney hasn’t confirmed anything about the series, which is currently shooting in Atlanta, but it certainly seems like the Defenders – whose series migrated to Disney+ from their original home on Netflix earlier this year – are officially being folded into the wider MCU proper.

Will we get a proper revival for Daredevil? Will the Defenders get any kind of big-screen outing? Will Mike Colter’s Luke Cage enter into the mix too? Does any care enough to bring back Finn Jones’ Iron Fist? All these questions and more remain unanswered – but excitement for Echo is starting to reverberate even more loudly than before.
