Though it was originally announced to much excitement back in 2020 as part of Disney's big Investor Day that year, the plan for Wonder Woman director Patty Jenkins to craft Star Wars: Rogue Squadron has since been stalled in a development hanger, and was removed from the studio's release schedule two years later. Yet now, according to Jenkins, things might just be moving again.

Appearing on the Talking Pictures podcast (as reported by IGN), Jenkins revealed that since a third outing for Wonder Woman with Gal Gadot in the role no longer appears to be happening under James Gunn and Peter Safran's new DC movie/TV universe, the director's schedule is open for a potential return to the Star Wars galaxy.

"When I left Star Wars to do Wonder Woman 3, and I started working on that, we talked about, ‘Well, maybe I’ll come back to Star Wars after Wonder Woman 3,’ so we started a deal for that to happen," she told the podcast. "When Wonder Woman 3 then went away, Lucasfilm and I were like ‘Oh, we’ve got to finish this deal.’ We finished the deal right as the strike was beginning, so I now owe a draft of Star Wars." The film, about heroic Rebel pilots, certainly sounded one to anticipate, but has been frustratingly out of reach.

The big screen world of Star Wars has itself been parked seemingly in neutral for the last few years, but things are seemingly gearing back up again with several films in development and The Mandalorian & Grogu preparing to shoot this year. "They have a hard job in front of them of, 'What’s the first movie they’re going to do?'" Jenkins says. "They have other directors who have been working, but I am now back on doing Rogue Squadron. We’ll see what happens. We need to get it to where we’re both super happy with it." 'We'll see' certainly appears to be the most sensible attitude, in that Rogue Squadron won't seem a reality until the trailer arrives.
