Lots of people went to see Kevin James playing a loveable schlub who’s also a security guard in Paul Blart: Mall Cop. So in the spirit of sticking with what it knows, Sony is rolling out another chance for James to be wacky crossbred with Dr Doolittle-style chatty critter action in Zookeeper. The full trailer has just arrived, and you can watch it below.

James stars as Griffin Keyes, a devoted zookeeper who is having some serious romantic issues. He was dumped years ago by dream girl Stephanie (Leslie Bibb), who had a problem with his status as a lowly animal care worker. But when they meet again, Griffin decides he’ll leave the zoo to take another job and win her heart. Or at least her kidneys.

Trouble is, the animals he looks after simply don’t want to lose their buddy, and so they break their code of silence to communicate with him, promising to use their natural abilities to teach him how to win over Stephanie. Cue slapstick, animal impersonations and a product placement-heavy obsession with TGI Fridays.

Oh, and there’s also Griffin’s fellow zoo-worker Kate, who, because she looks like Rosario Dawson, is clearly the better choice for him. Take a gander at the trailer and leave your thought-droppings below.

Zookeeper features the likes of Adam Sandler, Cher, Judd Apatow, Sylvester Stallone, Jon Favreau, Faizon Love, Maya Rudolph and Don Rickles on animal voice duty. The film will be out on July 29.
