A set of character posters arrived yesterday, so by the apparently iron-clad rules of film marketing, a fresh trailer must surely follow. Oh, look: a fresh trailer! Yes, feast your eyes on a much more music-laden promo for Rob Marshall’s Into The Woods.

Blending Stephen Sondheim and James Lapine’s musical with a cast that boasts the likes of Meryl Streep, Johnny Depp, Emily Blunt and Chris Pine,** Into The Woods** riffs on the stories of the Brothers Grimm, hinging on a childless baker who attempts to lift a family curse by journeying woods-ward on a mission for Streep's evil harpy. They’re tasked with collecting various fairy tale items and along the way they encounter classic characters like Rapunzel, Cinderella, Jack (of beanstalk notoriety) and Red Riding Hood, played by newcomer Lilla Crawford. Expect endings a little less happy than normal.

James Corden is the Baker, with Blunt as his wife, Anna Kendrick as Cinderella, Pine as Cinders' handsome prince, Depp as the Big Bad Wolf, Mackenzie Mauzy as Rapunzel, Annette Crosbie as Grandma, Daniel Huttlestone as Jack, Frances de la Tour as the Giant and Tracey Ullman as Jack's mother.

Into The Woods hits the US on Christmas Day before journeying to our shores on January 9.
