Just when it seemed that all the pieces were falling into place for X-Men Origins: Wolverine, the change in shooting schedules on director Gavin Hood’s Logan Year One tale has forced newbie Kodi Smit-McPhee to drop out of playing the youngling adamantium-clawed wild thing. Already committed to John Hillcoat’s adaptation of the Cormac McCarthy thriller The Road (alongside Viggo Mortensen and Charlize Theron), the oddly monikered newcomer has seen the coveted superhero mantle passed over to equally bizarrely named pretender, Troye Mellet.

The 13-year-old Perth resident hasn’t got much on his CV, filmwise, but he does share a love of musical numbers with his grown-up counterpart Hugh Jackman. Take a look at the video below to see the Mellet crooning Over The Rainbow for Aussie TV.

Still on target for a May 1, 2009 release, the casting reshuffle shouldn’t cause too many problems with the production. Still, we reckon the poor casting agents are earning their wages on this one...
