Iron Man Update

After almost a year of pre-production, Jon Favreau’s Iron Man has finally begun principal photography. And the man himself has happily reported that the first week of shooting has “come off without a hitch”. Speaking via something called MySpace**, the director also revealed that “**the first few weeks of shooting are spent, somewhat in sequence, establishing Stark's captivity”. It’s going to be a long time before we see Favreau’s take on the Marvel character stride onto screen (Iron Man is currently set for a May, 2008 release), but for more from the (iron) horse’s mouth, head over to his Iron Man Movie Group now.

Carpenter On Plissken

As 300 continues to plunder the U.S box-office, one of King Leonidas’ (Gerard Butler) next projects has been given a rumoured push in an unexpected direction. Butler has been heavily linked in to play Snake Plissken in the new re-working of John Carpenter’s sci-fi cult-classic, Escape From New York. Carpenter revealed earlier today that he thought the new movie would be a prequel-like look at anti-hero Plissken, rather than an out-and-out remake of the 80’s original. The director also mentioned that the film would probably concentrate on Snake’s activities before he reaches the confines of Manhatten’s prison walls. Carpenter – who will be an executive producer on the new project – told “My main involvement is I read the scripts and make sure the character is the same character that we wrote originally. I think that would be cool. My other main involvement in this project is to extend my hand and have a check placed in it.”

Stars Sign On The Dotted 9

Elijah Wood, Jennifer Connelly, John C. Reilly, Martin Landau and Crispin Glover have all signed up to voice characters in Shane Acker’s animated feature 9. Acker – who was nominated for an Best Short Film Oscar in 2005 – has teamed up with Monster House writer Pamela Pettler to produce this futuristic tale of pretty-clued up and fully-functioning dolls, who are caught in a battle of survival.
