Turtle Power Rules US Box Office

The words awesome and dude are probably going to be used a lot in this story, so we apologise. There may also be the odd righteous and possibly even a rogue gnarly. But this is a story about how the '80s favourite steroidal amphibeans, the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, the made an awesome return to the top of the box office, so it's totally ok, dude.

The crimefighting mutated pets , who live in the sewer and are therefore the only superheroes guaranteed to smell of pooh, recaptured their former glory by grabbing $25,450,000 in its opening weekend. That might not be as awesome a total as we've seen lately, but it was enough to end 300's reign at the top, although the Spartan smash retained the number two spot.

Mark Wahlberg's poorly reviewed Shooter missed its mark and could only make it to the number three slot with $14.5million. Children's movie The Last Mimzy - and, I'm sorry, but are we the only ones who think that sounds kinda rude? - managed a reasonable $10.2million, to take fifth place.

The sequel to the remake of The Hills Have Eyes was pretty lifeless with exactly $10million at number seven; 9/11 flavoured drama Reign Over Me drew $8million and the final new entry, Terrence Howard starrer Pride, managed a rather weak $4million.

Scientists have run their bleepy machines over the below and found that it is, yes, very high in chartiness. Please wear eye protection.
