Women Love Nude Scenes

The Alliance of Women Film Journalists has announced the nominations for their annual awards, which includes some unusual gongs. Best Depiction of Nudity or Sexuality (frontrunners: Babel, Little Children and Borat), Actress Most In Need Of A New Agent, Movies You Wanted To Love But Couldn’t and The Hanging In There For Best Persistence awards rub shoulders with the usual categories. Gosh, imagine how much more interesting that would make the Oscars. The clips for the nudity or sexuality category alone would make the ceremony a good 57.6% more interesting. Something to consider there, Academy of the Motion Picture Arts And Sciences.

Brucie Bonus

Want to see a picture from the most cult film of next year? Head on over to Ain’t It Cool, where they have an image of the immortal, the godlike, the one-and-only Bruce Campbell, from his new film My Name Is Bruce, wherein he plays himself, being encouraged to fight monsters by locals who have confused him with the immortal and godlike Ash (from Evil Dead – do keep up at the back). Check out the pic – admittedly not a very exciting one – at this link.

Storm Warning At Dimension

Dimension has picked up distribution rights to Storm Warning, a new horror film wherein a yuppie couple (uh-oh!) lost in a swamp (uh-oh!) take refuge at an isolated farmhouse (yikes!) only to discover that they’ve been taken prisoner by deranged killers (bummer.). And all from Jamie Blanks, the director of Urban Legend and Valentine. Should be a gas, even if we haven’t heard of any of the cast.

Legal Shenanigans

We suspect that Borat’s lawyers will be giving each other “high faiives!” this afternoon, after an LA judge denied the request, by two college students, to place an injunction on further screenings of the film until scenes featuring the two were deleted or altered. The judge denied that these were the “extraordinary” circumstances necessary to grant such an injunction, and that they had “failed to meet their burden of proof” in showing a reasonable probability of success. It doesn’t bode well for the many suits against our favourite faux-Kazakhstani.

New York** Critics Are United**

Awards season has begun people, albeit with all the smallest ceremonies first. Still, one of the more influential of the small awards is the New York Film Critics Circle, which voted for Paul Greengrass’ **United 93 **as their film of the year, after a four-round vote against Stephen Frears’ The Queen – proving conclusively that British directors rock. Helen Mirren won Best Actress, and Forest Whitaker Best Actor, while Scorsese bagged Best Director and, er, Happy Feet Best Animated Film. Read the full list of winners here{ =nofollow}.
