Following hot (or should that be cold, given the Antarctic setting?) on the heels of the teaser poster, the first trailer for prequel horror The Thing has arrived online and can be viewed below.

There, the team have stumbled upon a seemingly alien spaceship buried in the ice, one that has been there for an awfully long time… And contains an organism everyone assumes to be long dead.

But guess what? Surprise! An experiment to nab some tissue samples awakens the beastie and soon it’s loose in the camp, slaughtering the humans and – craftily – assuming the form of whatever prey it can find. Paranoia begins to spread as Kate and the team realise that it could be posing as any one of them, just waiting for its next victim. And that they’re going to have to stop it spreading further…

Yes, there are shock-jumps aplenty here and the usual running and screaming, but it’s looking like an effective little thriller. With Matthijs van Heijningen calling the shots, the cast also features Joel Edgerton, Jonathan Lloyd Walker and Adewale Akinnuoye-Abaje.

**The Thing **will infiltrate our cinemas on December 2.
