Steve Zahn has joined Diary Of A Wimpy Kid, Fox 2000's adaptation of the bestselling fiction series charting the middle-school highs and lows of ordinary seventh grader Greg Heffley (Zachary Gordon).

The underrated actor/comedian, soon to be appearing on our screens in a very non-comic turn in thriller The Perfect Getaway, will play Greg's dad. Rachael Harris, last seen as Stu's nagging girlfriend in The Hangover, completes a very capable comic parent duo as mum.

Diary Of A Wimpy Kid is directed by Thor Freudenthal (Hotel For Dogs), with the book beaten into script form by two pairs of writing teams, Jeff Filgo and Jackie Filgo, and Jeff Judah and Gabe Sachs.

The Wimpy Kid books, written by Jeff Kinney in a mixture of diary and cartoon form, have been a massive success in the US, selling more than 20 million copies. Fox, no doubt, will be hoping to spin the movie off into a series. If you've read them, share your thoughts on what we can expect (preferably using the words 'Ferris Bueller' and/or 'Scott Pilgrim' at least once)...
