Silver Linings Has Indie Spirit

It was a good night for David O. Russell and star Jennifer Lawrence as **Silver Linings Playbook **won a batch of awards at the 28th annual Independent Spirit Awards, held as always on Santa Monica Beach.

Playbook scored Best Feature, Best Director, Best Female Lead and Best Screenplay, though John Hawkes – snubbed, for some reason by the Oscar nominations – won Best Male Lead and his co-star in The Sessions, Helen Hunt, got Best Supporting Female.

Matthew McConaughey was a surprise and much-cheered winner as he took home Best Supporting Male for Magic Mik****e. All those years of shirtless acting – vindicated!
