Though we doubt the success of Wreck-It Ralph has had much to do with it, you’ve got to wonder at the coincidence between the success of Disney’s video game-homaging ‘toon across the pond and the latest batch of game-to-film announcements. Yesterday we had Tom Hardy attached to **Splinter Cell and today Scott Derrickson taking on the Deus Ex film for CBS.
Announced in early July, Deus Ex** comes from Square Enix and the film version will be based on the latest incarnation of the game, Human Revolution. Derrickson is writing the script with his Sinister collaborator C. Robert Cargill.
The plot will follow Adam Jensen, a former SWAT security specialist who is badly injured in the line of duty. He’s given nanotechnological augmentation and must unravel a global conspiracy.
**"Deus Ex **is a phenomenal cyberpunk game with soul and intelligence,” said Derrickson, who continued, “By combining amazing action and tension with big, philosophical ideas, Deus Ex is smart, ballsy, and will make one hell of a movie. Cargill and I can't wait to bring it to the big screen."
Derrickson is currently developing several films, including supernatural police thriller Beware The Night, which has Eric Bana on to star, an adaptation of Stephen King’s story **The Breathing Method **and a new take on the story of David and Goliath.
