In development since at least 2018, DreamWorks Animation has at last announced the cast for its action comedy The Bad Guys. Which means that we now know that Sam Rockwell, Awkwafina, Anthony Ramos, Marc Maron, Craig Robinson, Lilly Singh, Zazie Beetz, Alex Borstein and Richard Ayoade will all be lending their tonsil talents.
Etan Cohen is driving the adaptation of Aaron Blabely's series of illustrated tomes, which follow a group of reformed, misunderstood villains – Mr. Wolf, Mr. Piranha, Mr. Snake and Mr. Shark – who are fed up people being terrified of them, and decide to become a force for good. There's just one problem with their plan... They're dreadful at it.
The original books hit Stateside bookshelves in 2016 and have become successful, which explains DreamWorks' interest. Cohen will work with Hilary Winston on the script, while Shrek Forever After animator Pierre Perifel is stepping up to make his directorial debut. Universal is aiming to have this one in cinemas next April.
