DreamWorks Animation has form with villains looking to chart a slightly different path in life after Megamind. So we suppose The Bad Guys fits in with that idea. Tropic Thunder writer Etan Cohen is on board to adapt the book series into a film for the company.

Aaron Blabely series of illustrated tomes hit Stateside bookshelves in 2016 and have become successful, which explains DreamWorks' interest. The story follows a group of reformed, misunderstood villains – Mr. Wolf, Mr. Piranha, Mr. Snake and Mr. Shark – who are fed up people being terrified of them, and decide to become a force for good. There's just one problem with their plan... They're dreadful at it.

Cohen himself has a history with DWA; he worked on two of the Madagascar movie scripts, but more recently wrote the script for the Will Ferrell/John C. Reilly comedy reunion Holmes And Watson, which is due out on 7 December.
