Prince may no longer be with us, but his musical reputation and pop cultural impact lives on. And now, according to Jeff Sneider at The InSneider (and later confirmed by the trades), Black Panther filmmaker Ryan Coogler is throwing the might of his Proximity Media company behind developing a jukebox musical powered by the Purple One's tunes.

Few details are available about the film at the moment, as it's still at an early stage. Bryan Edward Hill, a veteran of the Titans DC universe series, has written a draft of the script, but it sounds like it'll go through further incarnations on its journey to the screen.

The film doesn't yet have a publicly released title yet, but it's set up at Universal.

Coogler, who runs Proximity with his wife, Zinzi Evans, alongside Sev Ohanian co-founded by the director's Black Panther colleague, composer Ludwig Göransson, is also gearing up to make his next film. A mysterious, also untitled event movie, it'll star Michael B. Jordan and released (hopefully) by Warner Bros.
