Long considered well-nigh impossible to capture properly on screen, the fact that Jack Kerouac’s iconic 1957 tome On The Road is headed for our cinemas will cheer the hearts of fans everywhere. Chief among those fans, of course, are director Walter Salles, who has been trying to get it made for more than five years, and executive producer Francis Ford Coppola, who has been struggling for 30. But their work is about to pay off! The trailer is now online and you can see it below.

Salles has rounded up an eclectic, talented young cast for the film, including Sam Riley, Garrett Hedlund, Kristen Stewart, Amy Adams, Kirsten Dunst, Alice Braga and Elizabeth Moss, with support from the likes of Viggo Mortensen and Steve Buscemi.

Road chronicles Sal Paradise (Riley)’s travels and his encounters with the wild Dean Moriarty (Hedlund) and his 16-year-old wife Marylou (Stewart). It’s a coming-of-age story, a look at the times and a romantic drama all rolled into one.

Regular Salles collaborator Jose Rivera wrote the script, and the film is headed for this year’s Cannes Festival before a planned UK release on September 21.
