Red Band Faster Trailer Screeches In

If you watched the first, regular trailer for Faster, you might have seen Dwayne Johnson getting trigger-happy and driving fast cars around. But what if you weren’t yet convinced he’s truly stepped away from the realm of family comedies and dramas for his return to the action genre? This new, red band promo for the movie could change your mind the minute Johnson stalks into an office and puts a bullet through someone’s brain.

Naturally, given its “protected” status (we’d warn that the violence might not be safe for work or The Poor, Precious Children Of The World), there’s a lot more gritty action to be found here, though not a lot beyond that first splatter of blood and a couple of other kills that would really qualify it for censorable status.

Faster finds Johnson as a man known (at the start of the film, at least), only as Driver. Years ago, he and his brother were double-crossed by a gang of fellow criminals following a heist. Driver was left for dead and his sibling was slaughtered. Now, after years in the slammer, he’s procured a list of the men responsible and he’s going to hunt them down, one by one.

But his crusade won’t be made any easier by the cops (Billy Bob Thornton and Carla Gugino) on his tail, and the assassin called Killer (Oliver Jackson-Cohen), who may or may not have been paid to take him down, and either way has decided that Driver makes the perfect challenge for him to test his skills.

It’s tough to tell from the trailer, but Faster will either end up as one of the year’s better thrillers or something that belongs on the straight-to-DVD list. We’re rooting for the former when it arrives in our cinemas on March 4.
