Pierre Morel, director of the frankly awesome Taken (we know, we know…) is set to oversee the crunching of more bones and the snapping of more necks – but this time with a distinctly Japanese flavour.

Morel has signed on to direct an as-yet untitled thriller for Paramount, about a Tokyo-based CIA operative, on the verge of retirement, who takes on one last mission and quickly gets caught up in a massive conspiracy that will, if we know Morel at all, require the crunching of bones and the snapping of necks.

Frank Baldwin wrote the script for the movie that, to our untrained ears, sounds like it only needs a bit of tweaking in order to become **Taken 2 **– after all, Liam Neeson’s badass hero, Bryan Mills, could conceivably bring his particular set of skills to Tokyo…

However, given that Taken is a Fox film, it’s unlikely that that would happen. Shame, although it gives Morel – who also directed the demented thriller, District B13 – a chance to come up with a new hero of equal, or even greater, badassery. We wish him well.

Alli Shearmur will produce the movie.
