The Coen Brothers lead the charge last night at the 80th Academy Awards, topping the lists with four wins for No Country For Old Men, including Best Director(s), Best Film, Best Supporting Actor for Javier Bardem and Best Adapted Screenplay. Coming in second was not There WIll Be Blood or Atonement but rather The Bourne Ultimatum, which sneaked in with a trio of technical awards for Editing, Sound Mixing and Sound Editing.
PT Anderson's effort didn't go unrewarded though, taking cinematography, while Daniel Day Lewis surprised precisely no one by bagging Best Actor. Marion Cotillard did raise a few eyebrows, edging out Cate Blanchett and Julie Christie to snatch Best Actress for La Vie En Rose, while Tilda Swinton managed an unexpected win with Best Supporting Actress for Michael Clayton.
Religious leaders let out a collective sigh of relief as Norbit lost out on Best Make-Up, having declared that such an event would usher in the last days and form the final sign of the apocalypse.
