What would you do if you went in for a job interview, got turned down, but then were trapped in the place with a bunch of armed terrorists trying to kidnap and possibly the kill the man you were aiming to work for? Admittedly, it’s not the sort of situation you’re likely to find yourself in at the local supermarket (unless you live in Edgar Wright’s brain), but that’s what Channing Tatum must deal with in the latest full trailer for White House Down.

Tatum is John Cale, a Washington, DC police officer who wants something more from his career and to impress his daughter Emily (Joey King). When he’s initially unsuccessful applying to join the Secret Service, he’s then forced into doing the job of protecting the world’s most powerful man (Jamie Foxx’s President James Sawyer) when armed troublemakers attack the capital.

Cue gunfire, quips, explosions, armed helicopters, explosions, cars, explosions and more explosions (this is a Roland Emmerich film, after all) as the two men fight to survive.

Emmerich is bringing the second film about the White House under threat to cinemas this year, following Olympus Has Fallen, but he might just have the edge. Throw in the clear charisma of the leading men and Emmerich’s own pyrotechnic experience and you have the recipe for one very volatile action thriller.

Can it compete this summer? We’ll find out when White House Down lands in our cinemas on September 6.
