The first trailer for the new horror movie produced by the Paranormal Activity/Insidious team, Oculus, arrived in January. Here to bring even more of the plot comes a second, which sees Karen Gillan and Katee Sackhoff terrified by strange visions.

Oculus’ story runs thusly: ten years ago, tragedy struck the Russell family, leaving the lives of young siblings Tim (Brenton Thwaites) and Kaylie (Gillan) forever changed when Tim was convicted of the brutal murder of their parents (Sackhoff and Rory Cochrane). Now in his 20s, Tim is newly released from protective custody and wants to move on with his life. But Kaylie, still haunted by that fateful night, is convinced that her parents’ deaths were caused by something else altogether: a malevolent supernatural force, unleashed through the Lasser Glass, an antique mirror in their childhood home.

Determined to prove Tim’s innocence, Kaylie tracks down the mirror, only to learn that similar deaths have befallen previous owners over the past century. With the mysterious entity now back in their hands, Tim and Kaylie soon find their hold on reality shattered by terrifying hallucinations, and realize, too late, that their nightmare is beginning again…

Mike Flanagan adapted this one from his short, and with the film due in the US on April 11, we now also know it’ll haunt UK shores on June 13. Yes, that’s Friday June 13. Seems appropriate, no?
