If it seems like we’ve been waiting a while for Thomas Vinterberg’s adaptation of Far From The Madding Crowd, that’s because the film was shot in 2013, released its first batch of images and an initial trailer late last year and is now moving on to a second glimpse of footage.

Carey Mulligan, no stranger to literary material, here plays Thomas Hardy’s heroine Bathsheba Everdene, the beautiful, headstrong and independent woman who inherits property from her uncle and then turns the heads of three different suitors, with varying consequences. Matthias Schoenaerts plays the earthy Gabriel Oak; Tom Sturridge is the dashing Sergeant Troy; and Michael Sheen bears the burden of the unfortunate William Boldwood.

This second trailer adds a little more of the story as Bathsheba struggles with her conflicted feelings for the three men while still trying to forge her own path through a world that still relies heavily on tradition. With a script by David Nicholls, the film will arrive in the UK on May 1.
