New Poster For The Fighter

Has True Grit started a text-trend?

New Poster For The Fighter

A rather lovely new poster for David O.Russell's The Fighter has gone up on the movie's UK PR site, and while it moves away from the black background and moody cast photos we've seen so far, it's kind of a doozy.

Sure, pink maybe isn't the colour you'd associate with this story of boxing contender "Irish" Micky Ward (Mark Wahlberg) and his trainer / drug addict brother Dickie Edlund (Christian Bale) - but who cares when it looks this pretty?

We can't help thinking, however, that this approach might have been at least partly inspired by the eye-catching text-only, Wanted-style posters produced recently for the Coen Brothers' True Grit, which are a thing of beauty and which have become hard currency in the Empire office.{True Grit Typo Poster}

At the very least, this one is more appropriate than the poster which proclaims The Fighter "the best boxing movie since Rocky" - which might be fair enough were it not for the existence of a little effort called Raging Bull.

The Fighter is out on February 2, so there isn't long to wait now to see if it deserves all that awards buzz and those Best Supporting gongs.
