As the mega prequel-sequel **X-Men: Days Of Future Past **edges ever closer to the screen, we’re getting a few more glimpses at its main players. Today you can take a gander at Michael Fassbender’s Magneto in all his handsome, helmet-less glory.

Just as on one of our 25 covers this month, Mr Metal-Bender is standing in Washington DC – specifically, in front of what appears to be the US Supreme Court, complete with some ominous looking flames and a wind-buffeted American flag.

As you’ll no doubt know by now, **Days Of Future Past **is based on the seminal comic book arc of the same name. As such, we’ll be seeing not only a sideburned Fassbender as Magneto, but also **X-Men **veteran Ian McKellen as his older incarnation. He’ll be joined by the likes of Patrick Stewart and James McAvoy (as future and past Xavier, respectively), as well as Jennifer Lawrence, Ellen Page, Peter Dinklage and someone called Hugh Jackman.

The film finds Professor X, Magneto, Wolverine and the rest of the X-team confronting a dark alternate future where mutants are an endangered species, having been tracked down, imprisoned or killed thanks to Bolivar Trask (Peter Dinklage)’s Sentinel program and a huge amount of distrust from regular ol’ humans.

They plot to send Wolverine’s consciousness back in time to the **First Class **era (specifically, 1973) to convince the youthful Professor X (James McAvoy), Magneto (Michael Fassbender) and the rest of the gang to work together to stop the threat.

If the prospect of such star-studded time travelling has got you intrigued, there are plenty more details in this month’s edition of Empire. (Did we mention there are 25 covers? Well, there are.) **X-Men: Days Of Future Past **will be released on 22nd May in the UK, and just one day later for our American cousins.
