New John Carter Trailer Online

After some new pics and that fresh poster, the all-out publicity barrage for John Carter continued apace on Wednesday with the arrival of the second official trailer. Take a gander below.

Finding Nemo/Wall-E veteran Andrew Stanton has been slaving over the film for several years now, blending studio work with desert location shooting and some hefty CGI to bring Edgar Rice Burroughs’ tale of a dispirited US Civil War veteran (Taylor Kitsch) who finds himself transported to the planet Barsoom. Or, as we like to call it on Earth, Mars.

Once there, he quickly becomes mixed up in a power struggle and finds both friends (including Willem Dafoe’s multi-limbed Tars Tarkas) and enemies (Mark Strong’s Matai Shang, from the looks of this trailer). Cue conflict! Cue big air ships! Cue creatures of all sizes!

The first promo was more about mood than plot, and while there’s still not a lot of story on show here, there’s at least a little more in terms of what Carter himself faces. And because we’re getting closer to the movie’s release date, there’s more CG eye candy on display.

Carter faces a big challenge to win over both fans of the book and newcomers who hear Barsoom and think it’s a new Russ Meyer tribute pic. We’ll find out how well it fares when it arrives here on March 9.
