What do you expect from an Only God Forgives poster? Ryan Gosling, surely. Ryan Gosling, looking cool. Ryan Gosling, looking like he might be about to do something extremely violent. Well think on. With typical Nicolas Winding Refn glee in wrong-footing its audience, the poster that just arrived gives us a big neon devil dragon head. Raaaarr.
Eschewing the typical cast shot then, this looks to be a nod to the karaoke bars and Thai boxing dens that our hero frequents. There's a motion poster version too, to further give us that seedy flashing sign vibe.
Only God Forgives, you'll be aware by now, sees Gosling exiled to Bangkok, running said fighting establishment as a front for a drug smuggling operation. When his brother is killed, he's sent by his terrifying mother (Kristin Scott-Thomas) deep into the city's criminal underworld, on a quest to find kingpin The Angel of Vengeance. It sounds like it's going to marry the urban grime of Drive to the mad existential trippiness of Valhalla Rising... and that can only be an awesome thing.
