Back in 1951, the poster advertising sci-fi flick The Day The Earth Stood Still featured tanks shooting ordnance at a massive robot with a laser firing from its face. In the background of the poster was a giant hand holding planet Earth in its vice-like grip. Pretty cool, huh? How the hell can you top that?
Well, according to the marketing bods on the 2008 remake of The Day The Earth Stood Still, by showing state-of-the-art fighter jets blazing their way towards an enormous, phospherant orb floating over a city— the spaceship of choice of the new-look alien invaders. It’s creepy, vibrant and only a slight rip-off of the similarly themed Independence Day’s one-sheet (below).
We’re still not sold on the idea of Keanu Reeves and the director of a straight-to-video Hellraiser sequel remaking one of the more cerebral sci-fi classics. But we’re confident it will, at the very least, look cool — and this poster does nothing to change that.
