Tobey Maguire and Jake Gyllenhaal have signed for Brothers, the next film by Jim Sheridan (In The Name of the Father, In America).

Based on Susanne Bier's Danish drama of the same name (but spelled in a more Danish way), Brothers is the story of a young man (Maguire) who goes to fight in Afghanistan, leaving his wayward younger sibling (Gyllenhaal) to look after his wife and child. In the original movie – and this is not a major spoiler, but stop reading now if you want to go in clean – the Maguire character is involved in a helicopter crash and presumed dead. I think we can all guess where things head with the brother left with the wife...

David Benioff (The 25th Hour) has written the screenplay, with filming planned to start in November.
