Maggie Gyllenhaal Joins Dark Knight

It's been confirmed that Maggie Gyllenhaal will join The Dark Knight, taking over where Katie Holmes left off as assistant District Attorney and Batman's best gal Rachel Dawes.

Gyllenhaal seems an excellent choice to take over the role. She's got the acting chops to go nose to nose with the likes of Christian Bale, Michael Caine, Morgan Freeman and new additions Heath Ledger (The Joker) and Arron Eckhart (Harvey Dent/Two Face). Also, she only seems about a gazillion years too young to be a district attorney, where Holmes was at least a bazillion shy.

The Batman Begins sequel is set to start shooting in late spring for a July 18 2008 release.
