If you’re looking for nuanced character-based entertainment, you could always watch the trailer for **August: Osage County** **again. But if you’re a fan of the Mexpolitation madness that Robert Rodriguez showcased in Machete, you’re going to have a blast with the teaser for the sequel, Machete Kills.
In this explosive and typically OTT promo, Danny Trejo’s ex-Federale is hanging around when he’s asked by the President (Charlie Sheen, credited here by his birth name, Carlos Estevez) to track down a revolutionary and crazed arms dealer named Voz (Mel Gibson), who has plans to send a weapon into space.
Returning from the first film are Michelle Rodriguez, Jessica Alba, and Rodriguez’ nieces-in-law, Electra and Elise Avellan, with new faces including Sofia Vergara (sporting a weaponised bra), Amber Heard, Vanessa Hudgens, Cuba Gooding Jr, Marko Zuror, William Sadler, Lady Gaga and Demian Bichir. Rodriguez has also rounded up some former collaborators, with Alexa Vega and Antonio Banderas present and correct.
The first Machete promised a lot and didn’t quite deliver despite some outstanding moments, so let’s hope this one gets the ratio of fun-to-madness right. Or at least goes so loco that it’s a riotous watch. It’s set for a September 13 release in the States, but there’s no word on a UK date just yet.
