He may have spent the last few weeks tussling with the German authorities over location shoots, religious beliefs and his portrayal of the Hitler-hating Colonel Claus von Stauffenberg in Bryan Singer’s Valkyrie, but happily for Mr Tom Cruise, you can now catch a glimpse of him back in front of the cameras – for the right reasons – in the teaser for Robert Redford’s forthcoming political drama, Lions For Lambs.

Penned by Matthew ‘brother of Smokin’ Joe’ Carnahan, the movie will be the first project to emerge from the United Artists stable since The Cruiser and his production partner Paula Wagner, took control of the studio last November. The film explores three intertwining stories centered on an escalating conflict in Afghanistan. As White House-hungry Senator Jasper Irving, Cruise will lead the debate on terror in Washington with journalist Janine Roth (Meryl Streep) at his side, while Redford – alongside his directorial duties – will appear as galvanising college professor, Dr Stephen Malley. With its couldn’t-get-anymore-topical-if-you-tried subject matter and political invectives flying all over the place, Lions For Lambs looks set to ruffle a whole chicken’s worth of feathers when it hits screens in November.
