The first trailer for the new Tom Hanks/Julia Roberts rom-com Larry Crowne has arrived online and you can watch it below.

Crowne marks Tom Hanks’ return to directing for the first time since 1996’s That Thing You Do! We’re introduced to his affable everyman as a well-liked employee at a big box store. But when Larry is suddenly downsized, he realises his life is missing a few elements. Part of the reason he got canned was his lack of a college education so he decides to hit the local college and get himself some classes.

There he becomes part of a group of colourful outcasts who are also all looking for their place in the world, and meets his lecturer, Mercedes Tainot (Roberts) a woman who has lost her passion for both teaching and her marriage. But whaddya know? Sparks fly!

With a cast that boasts those two powerhouse leads plus one of the more eclectic ensembles to happen along in ages in Bryan Cranston, Pam Grier, George Takei, Rob Riggle, Taraji P Henson, Cedric the Entertainer, Gugu Mbatha Raw, Wilmer Valderrama, Rami Malik, Rita Wilson and more, Crowne looks like it’ll be amiable, unchallenging entertainment anchored by the considerable charm of its co-writer/director/star.

Take a look at the trailer below and let us know your thoughts.

Larry Crowne is out on July 1.
