If there is one, tiny sad downside to the otherwise joyful arrival of the first Bill And Ted Face The Musictrailer, it's the knowledge that comedy legend George Carlin isn't around to reprise his role as Rufus. But there is movement on exploring more about the man, as Judd Apatow is planning a documentary about him.

"I’m about to start work with my partner Michael Bonfiglio on a documentary about George Carlin," Apatow tells The Boston Globe. "So I’m looking forward to watching a lot of Carlin interviews and specials. I think his work turned out to be very prophetic."

Carlin, of course, for those who don't know him outside of his movie appearances, was a smart, hilarious rabble rousing comedian who pushed boundaries, even to the point where his "seven dirty words" routine was part of a landmark censorship case in the US Supreme Court.

There's no mention yet of where this new documentary might be placed, but as Collider points out, given Carlin's long history with HBO (he shot 14 specials for the channel) and Apatow's (the director's previous documentary, The Zen Diaries Of Garry Shandling was produced for it), there's a good chance it'll be the home of this one.

Apatow, meanwhile, has his latest feature film, The King Of Staten Island, out in the UK via VOD on Friday. You can read an interview with him here and our review of the movie right here.
