The bad news is, Christian Slater has dropped out of the animated movie Igor, the story of a talented little guy who happens to be born with a hunchback, and is therefore doomed to a life of servitude under a mad scientist. The good news is, John Cusack has stepped in to replace him. Sean Hayes (who will be best known to most as Jack from Will & Grace) has also joined the cast.

The film is being directed by Anthony Leondis, and after writing contributions to the likes of The Prince of Egypt, and Home On The Range, this is his first big screen project where he’s calling the shots. And fair play to him for managing to assemble a really rather awesome cast – Jeremy Piven, Steve Buscemi, John Cleese, Molly Shannon, Jennifer Coolidge and Jay Leno are all on board.

Igor is in production as we speak, but don’t start getting excited just yet – it’s scheduled for a US release on October 24, 2008, and it’ll doubtless get the Halloween spot over here too.
