Well, that really is the strangest teaser for a Star Wars film we could imagine… Which is why we can all go ahead and assume that this mysterious new teaser from Bad Robot for something else that J.J. Abrams and his legions are working on. But what?

It’s certainly a compelling piece of of footage, featuring a ragged man struggling onto a beach from the ocean as a gravelly narration talks about endings and beginnings.

And the final reveal, that the man has his mouth stitched shut? It’s the sort of thing Abrams loved to do on Alias and that Damon Lindelof and the rest enjoyed on Lost (the teasing element, not stitching peoples’ mouths’ closed, unless their anti-spoiler policy was much stricter than publicised). The whole thing recalls those early teasers for Cloverfield, the none-more-secret monster movie that J.J. produced in 2008.

All we have to go on is the title of the vid – Stranger – and the Bad Robot logo (with what could be some Michael Giacchino piano music over the monochrome footage). And of course we already know that Abrams loves to plant mystery seeds in our noggins. So your guesses please, folks, either in the comments or on Twitter. One of Bad Robot’s upcoming movies? A new TV series? A web short destined to be blasted into our brains using a complicated laser delivery system? We’ll find out soon enough, but it’s fun to guess for now…
