Jason Lee Fills A Krater

Star to, erm, star in rock comedy

Jason Lee Fills A Krater

We’re big fans of Jason Lee here at Empire. Not just for his laidback style of comedy, as seen in countless Kevin Smith films. Not just because he’s virtually the only actor to escape from the Dreamcatcher debacle unscathed. And not just because he named his son Pilot Inspektor.

Well, it’s a combination of all three of those, actually – and our desire for Lee to become a bigger star (if only Smith had got Fletch off the ground) has come true recently with his fab sitcom, My Name Is Earl, for which he won a Golden Globe. And now he’s having another crack at the big-screen big time, after signing up for the comedy, Krater.

Lee – presumably sans his Earl moustache (the film will shoot during the show’s hiatus next May) – will play the leader of a rock band named Krater, who experiences problems when the group’s new lead singer turns out to have Broadway pretensions. OK, OK, so our sides remained resolutely intact upon hearing that premise, too, but give Jase a chance – this might be one to keep an eye on.

And now for the science stuff: Lee will also produce the movie, along with Scott M. Martin, while the script has been penned by J.D. Ryznar. Warner Bros. has given Krater a home for the harsh winter.
