It was a conclusive win for the flappy-footed penguins, who hauled in an additional $37.9 million, a drop of only 8.6% from last week, to tap past the $100 million mark. Bond took an extra $31 million, to put it on $94.2 million, putting it well on course to pass Die Another Day's $161 million.
It was a lacklustre weekend for the rest of the chart. People felt they'd seen everything on offer from Tony Scott's thriller Deja Vu before, so only showed up to the tune of $20.9million. Danny DeVito/Matthew Broderick Christmas piffle Deck The Halls limped in with $12 million.
Two other new releases were stillborn. Darren Aronofsky's divisive trippy time-spanning love story The Fountain landed with a dull thud, only enticing enough people to make it to $3.73million. More shocking was the massive underperformance of Tenacious D in: The Pick Of Destiny, which took just $3.1millon, barely enough to cover Jack Black's Ritalin prescription.
In the global box office Bond ruled, pushing his total haul to a hefty $222.4 millon, which should absolutely guarantee that Bond will return.
