Londoners, prepare to be terrified

FrightFest Line-Up Announced

The 2008 Film 4 FrightFest has announced its line-up. The horror-centric film festival, which runs from August 21-25 at the Odeon West End in London's Leicester Square, is always a good place to discover scary movies that will soon be talked about the world over.

Kicking off this year's festival is Eden Lake, a buzzed about British movie that comes off as a mix of Them and Last House On The Left, with a couple having their camping holiday rudely interrupted by a gang of young thugs with violence in mind. Expect it to be controversial when it's released later this year.

Another film with shades of French horror Them is The Strangers, which stars Liv Tyler and Scott Speedman as a couple whose home is terrorised by masked youths – scary teens are big this year – just for kicks.

The festival will end with the UK premiere of Death Race, Paul W.S. Anderson's remake of cult violence-fest Death Race 2000.

We've yet to see most of the rest, but with films about such subjects as a murderous cricketer (I Know How Many Runs You Scored Last Summer), a couple who live in an airport picking off immigrants (Mum & Dad) and a short film entitled The Amazing Trousers, there's probably something for most horror tastes.
