**WRITERS GUILD OF ****NOMINEES ANNOUNCED

**Rounding out the Big Three Guilds That Sound Like Golf Tournaments (DGA and PGA having made their choices over the last couple of weeks), the WGA has today announced the ten contenders for it screenwriting award. For best original screenplay, the nominees are Babel, Little Miss Sunshine, United 93, The Queen, and Stranger Than Fiction. For best adapted screenplay, the contenders are Thank You For Smoking, Little Children, The Devil Wears Prada, The Departed, Borat. The winners will be announced on February 11.

**AS ARE THE AMERICAN SOCIETY OF CINEMATOGRAPHERS AWARD NOMINEES

**They don't call it awards season for nothing. The lucky (not to mention talented) four are: Emmanuel Lubezki for Children Of Men, Dick Pope for The Illusionist, Robert Richardson for The Good Shepard, and Vilmos Zsigmond for The Black Dahlia. Frankly, that's not a shortlist you're going to see anywhere else this season, so enjoy!

AND WHILE WE'RE AT IT, LET'S DO THE EDITORS

With possibly the best award nickname of all the bunch, the Eddies produced their list of nominees today also. And they are: for Best Edited Drama, Babel, Casino Royale, The Departed, The Queen, and United 93. For Best Comedy Or Musical has been short-listed to The Devil Wears Prada, Dreamgirls, Little Miss Sunshine, Pirates Of The Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest, and Thank You For Smoking. Interestingly, the editors have always nominated the eventual Best Picture Oscar winner, so take a careful look at that list and see if you can figure out which one it is. The ceremony and announcement of the winner (they'd look a bit stupid if they didn't do it then) will happen on February 18.

**WEITZ MOVES INTO SUCK ****CITY

**After the slightest of mis-steps with American Dreamz, writer-director Paul Weitz (brother of Chris, with whom he made American Pie, About A Boy, and who is currently busy directing The Golden Compass) has confirmed his next project. He's adapting and directing Nick Flynn's memoir, Another Bullshit Night In Suck City, which recounts Flynn's time as a caseworker for homeless people whose con-man father ends up staying in the shelter where he works. No word on casting yet.
