The man with more comebacks to his name than Bowie, Jason Voorhees will be back for another outing, according to sources close to New Line and Platinum Dunes.

The deathproof villain will dust himself off for more hockey-masked mayhem in what's likely to be a follow-up, rather than a strict sequel to this month's Friday The 13th, in which a group of glamorous teens find themselves terrorised around Camp Crystal. Like this month's reboot, the next in the series will take elements of the original franchise as a starting point, rather than a template, for Jason's thirteenth return, although director Marcus Nispel is not expected to return.

Platinum Dunes and New Line have yet to officially greenlight the project. The studios are currently working together on another franchise resurrection, A Nightmare On Elm Street, which begins shooting in the next two months. Although, with Friday The 13th pulling a more than respectable $71 million worldwide so far, we'd be surprised if it didn't get the go-ahead soon.
