A low-budget Brit thriller that's been sweeping up awards on the independent film circuit this year, **Zebra Crossing **comes careering into our cinemas early next year. It's a black-and-white, fiercely visceral ride in the company of four friends through South London's meaner streets.

One of the four, Justin (Lee Turnbull), is looking for an escape from the gangland violence, drug dealing and despair that surrounds him. His mates, though - the controlling Tommy (Greg Wakeham) in particular - have other ideas. And, as this clip suggests, Tommy may just be a couple of cans short of a six-pack...

Set a short bottle toss from the enflamed estates of Harry Brown, this looks like another violently uncompromising slab of social realism to have South London estate agents weeping into their Minis.

If the gongs and buzz are anything to go by, Zebra Crossing is definitely one to seek out in the new year. It's in cinemas on January 28.
