Venturing deep into the English countryside is rarely the best idea in movies, unless you're appearing in an adaptation of a Thomas Hardy novel or are heavily armed. It's awash with American werewolves, fanatics for "the greater good", psychotic badgers and pungent cheeses. Witness this clip from new Brit horror Wake Wood for a whole new set of potential problems.
There are overtones of The Wicker Man in city-slickers Patrick (The Wire's Aiden Gillen) and Louise (Eva Birthistle) interactions with the people of Wake Wood village. There's something just a little rash in their attempts to bring back their nine year-old daughter back from beyond the grave. They've surely eaten a giant slice of stupid pie if they think that dabbling with the dark arts in a remote village is a good idea. You don't have to be Tommy Carcetti to see that.

Hammer Films, of course, is experiencing a rebirth of its own. Wake Wood is its first Brit-Isles-set feature from the new-look studio - Let Me In and **The Resident **kicked things off in the US - and, thanks to The Woman In Black, it will soon be providing another set of good reasons to keep away from the boondocks.
Wake Wood, meanwhile, is out in cinemas on March 25 and on DVD three days later.
