One of the films of the year, and certainly one of its most surprising blockbusters, Star Trek convinced a whole generation that this franchise isn't just for geeks anymore. And now, thanks to the good people at Titan Books and their new book, The Art Of Star Trek (out next Tuesday, folks), here's a tiny peek behind the scenes at the creation of Vulcan.

The text on the page, in case you can't quite make it out, reads: "The idea of Vulcan culture was if you went there it would all make sense, because the thought process is paramount to their culture,” [Production Designer] Scott Chambliss reflected. “It’s not that they don’t have aesthetics, it’s that their consummate logic has a beauty all its own. That is opposed to the pure emotion and physicality of the Romulans. Though both came from the same [racial] antecedents.”

The Art of Star Trek, by Mark Cotta Vaz, is out on November 17 and the Star Trek DVD and Blu-ray come out on Monday November 16.
