To date movie adaptations of F. Scott Fitzgerald's work have been a surprisingly ragtag collection of cinematic wallflowers and listless flops, but Baz Luhrmann may just have found the key to unlocking the great writer on the big screen. From everything we've seen of the Australian's **The Great Gatsby **so far, he's successfully meshed those high-style Luhrmann visuals with the melancholy romance of Fitzgerald's story and the elegance of his writing.

The final film should put the Charlestoning cat among the high-stepping pigeons, polarising the entire world and possibly sparking some kind of global conflict. We've seen the first trailer and now have these new stills from the film to share with you.

Both shots focus on Jay Gatsby (Leonardo DiCaprio), a self-made man with a shadowy past, and Daisy Buchanan (Carey Mulligan), his great lost love. Gatsby's fortune - in fact, all the gold under Smaug's bum - mean nothing compared to winning her back from brutish millionaire Tom Buchanan (Joel Egerton). Think Citizen Kane with a living, breathing Rosebud.
