Ah, awards ceremonies. There’s nothing like ‘em for getting people to be a bit indiscreet and **The Descent **director Neil Marshall opened up at the Empire Awards about new sci-fi film Doomsday. There’s no fixed cast yet although Neil has “fingers crossed” for getting Descent lady Alex Reid back again (and promises she won’t get a knife in the throat this time).

Doomsday is a very dark, very action-packed science-fiction film. I want a bit of a break from horror films. I want to do a couple of films elsewhere and then come back to horror with a vengeance later on,” said our Best Horror winner. “It’s kind of my homage to Escape from New York and Mad Max and all that stuff. It’s very much that kind of genre – by way of Terry Gilliam. Interesting combination, that’s what I’m after.”The film will be set in Glasgow, the Highlands and London, so **Descent **anoraks can start memorising the locations to see whether they turn up again. “It’s going to be pretty big,” he said of the shooting locales, “ and London – similar to The Descent actually.”And what about the much mooted Dog Soldiers 2 then? “It’s true that it apparently may be happening, but it’s untrue that I have any involvement,” said Neil. Naysayers, be told.
