Emile Hirsch In Talks For Speed Racer

Now kids, or at least those over 17, driving is a privilege not a right, so be safe behind the wheel. Do not take the example of Emile Hirsch, who is in advanced talks to become the face of wreckless endangerment in the Wachoswki's big screen vision of Speed Racer, based on the 60s cartoon series about a young racing driver and his gadget equipped car, the Mach 5 – which also doubles as an excellent razor.

Hirsch, who you may recognise from The Girl Next Door (he played the boy next door to the girl next door) and, if you can see the future, from the upcoming Alpha Dog, vroomed, eeeeeked and crashed his way to the head of the queue to topline the summer blockbuster in waiting, reportedly beating High School Musical's Zac Ephron.

Speed Racer is set to film in Germany this summer, for a May 9 2008 US release. And when it comes out, we will be enjoying the vicarious driving thrills but we will not be copying them, will we children? Drive safe, don't do drugs, stay in school and never wear spots with stripes.
