The closing night film of this year's 55th BFI London Film Festival has been announced, and it's The Deep Blue Sea. Not to be confused with that film about sharks, this is a drama based on Terence Rattigan's 1952 play and adapted by Terence Davies, with Rachel Weisz, Tom Hiddleston and Simon Russell Beale in the lead roles.
The movie, previewed in last month's magazine, sees Weisz cast as a 50s housewife married to Russell Beale. She starts an affair with ex-RAF-type Hiddleston, leading her into perillous new territory.
Hiddleston told Empire, "It's the simplest story about the complexity of being in love, the triumph of feeling over propriety. Even back in the '50s people were breaking through their corsets and allowing their hearts to be free."
The movie marks a neat one-two for Weisz, who also has a role in_the Festival's opening film, **360_. The Deep Blue Sea is out on November 25, but will close the BFI London Film Festival on October 27. The Festival runs from October 12-27, and the full line-up will be announced next week.
