The Boy Who Lived continues his evolution into The Man Who Flourished. With **Potter **now a fond but distant memory, Daniel Radcliffe has added to his catholic range of projects by signing up for Brooklyn Bridge, a period drama in which he'll play real-life engineer Washington Roebling.
If you're not well-versed in the history of US civil engineering - and, frankly, tsk - Roebling was a key figure behind the construction of the still-glorious Brooklyn Bridge. As a fledging hard hat, Roebling took over the construction project when his dad perished from tetanus and overcame his own personal tragedy to deliver New York and Brooklyn their long-craved artery in 1883.
The whole thing took 14 years and cost $15m and 20 lives. It's a chapter in American history that should offer plenty of dramatic grist for writer/director Douglas 'Emma' McGrath's screenplay to explore, as well as the chance to see Radcliffe in some mighty facial furniture.
There's a great woman behind this man - Washington's wife Emily, who provided wisdom and support when he was at his lowest ebb - and that role will be filled sometime between now and principal photography in August.
Radcliffe, meanwhile, can soon be seen strutting his stuff in The F Word on May 2, **Horns **and, shortly in a DVD capacity, in the well-received but underseen Kill Your Darlings. He'll be back on Broadway, too, with Martin McDonagh’s The Cripple of Inishmaan making the journey across the Atlantic this spring.
