We've known for some time now that the much-mooted sequel to Danny Boyle's excellent zombie flick (well, they weren't really zombies, but we'll let that go; semantics and all that) would be entitled 28 Weeks Later.
But now, thanks to an announcement made at the San Diego Comic-Con today by new 20th Century Fox offshoot Fox Atomic, we know more details about the movie's plot.
According to said press release, "28 Weeks Later picks up six months after the Rage virus has decimated the city of London . The US Army has restored order and is repopulating the quarantined city, when a carrier of the Rage virus enters London and unknowingly re-ignites the spread of the deadly infection, wreaking havoc on the entire population."
And there you have it. While this plot sparks off more questions than answers - how come the US Army are restoring order to London ? What happened to our brave Brits? Aren’t Rage carriers dying out by the end of the first movie – it certainly seems intriguing. It might have been more interesting to see the sequel deal with a new threat, but with Boyle, screenwriter Alex Garland and producer Andrew Macdonald all back on board – although director Juan Carlos Fresnadillo takes the reins – we’re sure the movie is in good hands.
By the way, even though we've used his picture, Cillian Murphy will be Sir Not Appearing In This Film.
28 Weeks Later is just one of a few projects announced by Fox Atomic here at Comic-Con, including The Hills Have Eyes 2, and a remake of Revenge Of The Nerds. No prizes, though, for guessing what the jewel in their aimed-at-18-24-year-olds crown is...
