Talking about a casting switch-up. In late 2017, news broke that Seth Rogen would be playing legendary US newsman Walter Cronkite in a based-on-truth drama called Newsflash. Well, news-flash-forward a couple of years and it's all change, with Chris Pine now on to tackle the role.

The drama, written by Ben Jacoby, will see Pine as Cronkite on the day that helped cement his reputation as one of the country's most trusted reporters. Which day, you ask? That would be 22 November, 1963, in the aftermath of President John F. Kennedy's assassination in Texas. Though Cronkite was not the first to the screen with word of the President's death, his calm, yet emotional reports helped to inform the country of the tragedy.

Story-wise, the movie will follow Cronkite, regular producer Don Hewitt (Mark Ruffalo is attached to play that role), their boss Jim Aubrey and a young reporter named Dan Rather, who has gone on to his own solid career in the news.

With a January start date on the books for production company Stampede, the race is on to find a director to tackle the movie and actually get it made. David Gordon Green was engaged to direct, but he's since moved on to the Halloween sequels.

Pine will next crop up in Wonder Woman 1984, headed to screens on 5 June next year
